"The purpose of art in all its forms is to make life real, to remove everything that gets in the way, and to help us live". By Mark Nepo

Welcome

I’m a multi-disciplinary artist with a background in Visual Arts, Creative Writing, Mindful dance/movement, and Expressive Arts Therapy.

For my artwork (and the art-based programs I offer), I draw inspiration from the cultural richness of popular art and craft making of the different cultures of the Americas: the indigenous, the European, and the African, and with the hope to invite others to protect and embrace our common humanity, creating and re-creating narratives: one memory, one story at a time.

The work has evolved over the years, but the themes of connection between people and the places they inhabit remains present, with the passing of time, identity transformation and the role of meaning in our recollection of memory being my most current subject of study. I do believe the arts empower because they help us connect with strength, compassion, and dignity, and bring healing in our relationships to ourselves, each other and our common home, our Mother Earth.

Whatever brought you here, I'm delighted to share with you my visual art pieces, the short stories I write (don't forget to subscribe to my newsletter), my community work through the healing arts and literacy advocacy. But, I'd also love to hear about YOUR story and creative interests. Hope you accept my invitation and decide to stay in touch.

Sincerely,

Karina
